Clinical Data

Lumpectomy specimen image interpretation with volumetric specimen imaging (VSI) was compared to two-dimensional specimen radiography and tomosynthesis in 200 cases. With a sensitivity up to 94% and specificity up to 85%, full-3D specimen imaging with VSI significantly improved the correlation between interpretation of the main lumpectomy specimen margin status and surgical pathology.

It has been a rewarding experience to participate in the retrospective study of Volumetric Specimen Imaging (VSI) and now lead the ongoing prospective trials testing the ability of VSI's fast, high quality, isotropic 3D images, to guide the excision of precise, targeted shave margins after lumpectomy for breast cancer.
